1.0-type Exmor RS™ CMOS Sensor

The HXR-NX800 is equipped with a large (approximately 14.0 megapixel (effective) 1.0-type Exmor RS CMOS^tm image sensor. Its unique stacked structure—with back-illuminated pixels layered over integrated signal processing circuits—enables faster read-out speeds and superior low-light performance due to the design allowing more light to reach the sensor.

5K oversampling with full-pixel readout condenses ample image information into stunning 4K (3840 x 2160) 60p video.

Wide Zoom Range

One superb 20x power zoom G Lens™ covers applications from wide-angle in-car interviews to telephoto close-ups for sports. It delivers an optical zoom range of 24-480 mm (35mm full-frame equivalent). With Sony’s Clear Image Zoom technology, the new camera can achieve 30x zoom when recording 4K or 40x zoom in FHD. Maximum apertures of F2.8 (wide) and F4.5 (telephoto) provide better low-light performance and additional creative applications.

Advanced AI Processing Unit for next generation AF

A specialized AI Processing Unit, working in concert with BIONZ XR ^TM, uses deep learning based on human form and posture data to recognize human subjects with high precision. The Fast Hybrid AF system offers 81% coverage to support Subject Recognition AF and Real-time Tracking better. Consequently, the HXR-NX800 can effortlessly track and maintain focus on subjects across the frame.

Cinematic and Broadcast Aesthetics

Achieve the look of professional broadcast or film productions with ease. Use presets for S-Cinetone ^TM, ITU709, 709tone, HLG Live, HLG Mild, and HLG Natural, then adjust black, matrix, and other parameters as desired. Easily color match  footage with content shot on Sony’s other broadcast and Cinema Line cameras.

Auto Framing

With Auto Framing³ engaged, the camera will automatically track a recognized human subject and adjust framing so that the subject is always prominently positioned in the frame. Auto Framing makes it possible to produce footage that looks as though it was manually captured by a professional – even if the camera was stationary the entire time. Solo operators can concentrate on engaging with an interviewee without constantly checking on camera positioning.

Built-in Electronic Variable ND Filter

Seamlessly adjust the Electronic Variable ND Filter to suit various lighting conditions. Move from 1/4 to 1/128 ND with a simple dial adjustment. The Auto ND function can maintain optimal exposure, particularly useful when moving quickly between indoor and outdoor environments.

AUTO/MANUAL Switch

Full auto mode can automatically adjust settings and maintain ideal brightness and white balance with a single switch. When set to AUTO, it engages Auto ND Filter, Auto Iris, Auto Gain Control, Auto Shutter, and Auto White Mode.

Designed For Live Streaming

Stream directly to compatible live streaming services and video sharing sites, via a hard-wired or Wi-Fi connection. RTMP/RTMPS or SRT protocols make it easy for a single operator to efficiently manage everything from recording to distribution.

Simple File Transfers

Easily upload proxy and original clips straight from the memory card to a cloud or FTP server. After registering the destination server in the camera, recorded files are transferred automatically whenever the recording stops. Proxy clips can even be recorded in segments and sequentially transferred during recording.

The Creator’s Cloud for Enterprise C3 Portal (paid) application makes cloud transfers easy, thereby making video files available for editing and sharing even sooner.⁹

BIONZ XR ^TM Image Processing

Integrated within the image sensor, our latest generation BIONZ XR ^TM image processor enables higher frame rates, faster autofocus, improved Auto Tracing White Balance (ATW) control, and superior noise reduction. It extracts maximum performance from the high-resolution image sensor, capturing the most subtle textures and finest detail. 5K oversampling with full-pixel readout condenses ample image information into stunning 4K (3840 x 2160) 60p video.

Enhanced White Balance Accuracy

The HXR-NX800's Auto Tracing White Balance (ATW) control has evolved alongside Sony’s BIONZ XR ^TM and AI capabilities. The camera's AI Processing Unit enables more precise ATW control, even in challenging lighting conditions, such as when the subject is in shadow.

Slow and Quick

The high readout speed of the Exmor RS ^TM sensor enables 4K high frame rate (HFR) recording at up to 120fps and FHD at 240fps. Achieve 4x slow motion in 4K at 30p or 5x slow motion at 24p. Whatever your creative choice, high speed AF helps ensure your subject is kept in focus. Slow & Quick Motion⁴ supports up to 4K 120fps and FHD 240fps recording.

Advanced Image Stabilization

With built-in image stabilization, you can minimize the effects of camera shake and ensure smooth, stable footage. Active Mode⁶ image stabilization combines optical and electronic stabilization to allow handheld shots to glide as though on a gimbal.

Accurate LCD Monitor and OLED Viewfinder

Easily monitor and focus on subjects with a new 3.5-type LCD monitor that offers approximately 2.76 million dots with outstanding brightness and clarity. The monitor swings up, down, and backward, making finding the right viewing angle easy. The supplied LCD hood is easily installed by sliding it into the grooves in the top and bottom of the LCD monitor, while the monitor can be folded away for storage even with the hood installed.

For clear, unimpeded viewing, the high-contrast 0.39-type OLED viewfinder shuts out extraneous light while offering approximately 2.36 million-dots.

Compact Design and Storage

Easily fold the EVF and LCD panel to store this lightweight camera.  The microphone holder can be detached from the camera for greater portability.

Flexible Camera Control

The HXR-NX800 is designed with the flexibility to operate according to your individual preferences and workflow demands. Two independent control rings for focus/zoom and two dials⁷ for IRIS /ND Variable are located side-by-side, allowing for effortless control of exposure, focus, and zoom. The HXR-NX800 also has 12 user assignable buttons (ASSIGN 1-11 and FOCUS PUSH AUTO button) that you can set to control almost any camera feature.

Variety of Recording Options

The HXR-NX800 offers a variety of recording formats to suit your individual project requirements. XAVC S-I offers the highest quality 10-bit 4:2:2 recording for 4K (QFHD) using post-production friendly Intra-Frame H.264. XAVC HS-L (H.265) and XAVC S-L (H.264) offer a choice of 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 with Long GOP recording for extended recording times and file-saving efficiency. XAVC HS enables recording of smaller proxy files (up to 16 Mbps) for previewing and editing.

Wireless Monitoring and Remote Control

4-Channel Audio

Record up to four channels of audio by combining inputs via XLR connectors and the Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe. Adjust levels for two of the channels using audio level dials without accessing device menus. Together with the SMAD-P5 Digital MI Shoe adapter, Sony’s UWP-D Series Wireless Microphones capture high-fidelity audio at the touch of a finger.

Dual Memory Card Slots

Record on two cards simultaneously or use relay recording to back up your content. Dual memory card slots support CFexpress Type A and SD memory cards.

Dependable Battery Power

Quickly charge BP-U35, BP-U70, or BP-U100 lithium-ion batteries using the BC-U1A or BC-U2A charger (batteries and charger sold separately). Continuous operating time with a BP-U35 battery is approximately 90 minutes. Swap batteries between other Sony cameras, including the PXW-Z280 and PXW-Z190 camcorders, as well as the FX9 and FX6 Cinema Line cameras.

Internal Fan and Vents

A built-in cooling fan and purposefully designed vents counter overheating to allow uninterrupted, extended shooting.

Accessibility Features

A screen reader function⁹ means you can have menu screens read aloud with user-selected volume and reading speeds. With a user-selected magnification ratio, a screen magnifier feature increases the size of record, playback, and menu screens.

Any substances used in Sony products, parts, or materials that have notable environmental or human health effects are classified as “controlled substances” that require environmental management. Such substances are subject to strict regulation that requires their use to be reduced as much as possible or prohibited entirely. Sony’s "Green Partner Environmental Quality Approval System" was introduced to ensure suppliers comply with these standards and regulations.

High-quality SORPLAS™ Material

No non-recyclable resources are used in our durable, high-quality SORPLAS™ material¹⁰. SORPLAS and other recyclable materials are used in camera bodies as much as possible*, reducing environmental stress without compromising performance or functionality. Over the past twelve years, approximately 426 tons¹¹ of virgin plastic have been replaced by recycled plastics in our digital cameras and digital video cameras.
